Flashback Friday: Rah Digga

I’m not into hip hop much these days. Rap has become rather trite. And, although Nikki Minaj and a couple of other current day rappers seemed to have had potential to change the game, as they say, that didn’t happen. Nikki fell into the same misogynistic cesspool where most of the other rappers occupying the hip hop landscape these days live.

But, there was a time, not too long ago, when not only was rap fun and unique and exciting but, a few women rappers occupied rarefied air in the rap game. One of those rappers was Rah Digga. A New Jersey native and member of the Flipmode Squad. She cranked out fun jams for a while at the turn of the millennium.

Here are two cuts from Rah Digga that made an impression on me and others and made her one of my favorite rappers at the time. The first is “Imperial” which was released in 1999. The second is “Break Fool” released in 2000.

Where you a Rah Digga fan?

  1. I remember Rah Digga – she had bars. I think she might have been a little too hardcore or real for mainstream though. She was good, though.

You don’t like Kendrick Lamar? He appears to be the heir apparent to the Cali rap scene.

    • You know, I really don’t check for rappers much anymore. I’ve heard of him but I can’t say that I’ve ever heard anything he’s done. The last rapper I was hype about was Nikki Minaj and you know how that turned out. Lol.

Yeah, Rah was hot for a minute. She was hanging with Busta so you might be right.
